Directory synchronisation

When an organization is spread across multiple sites, perhaps resulting from a merger or acquisition, the bringing together of disparate data onto one or more directories may generate unique problems relating to your data and where it is sourced. Once the data has been copied, ensuring that it stays up to date can be challenging. When the data is held across multiple directories, directories from different or with differing schemas may present further problems in integrating the data.

For example, a Windows centric company, which is likely to use Active Directory servers, merging with a company that has Mac OS Open Directory/OpenLDAP servers would want information shared across all systems without needing to migrating an entire company to Windows or Mac OS and retraining staff.

The Schemus InterChange Solution

InterChange provides a centrally managed service that allows organizations to automatically keep information contained across multiple directories and an almost unlimited range of systems current.

Schemus InterChange is deployed where all files and directories containing the source and destination data are accessible. With the aid of a graphical user interface you can connect the building blocks of your configuration describing where the information comes from and where it is to be written.

Differing schemas?

When migrating information from one manufacturer's directory to another there may be variations in the attributes required as part of the new schema. InterChange, again with the use of an intuitive graphical user interface, allows the attributes to be renamed, duplicated and manipulated to suit this new schema. If a new attribute is required then this value may be derived from other fields. If the data manipulation requires complex rules then there are a range of predefined library functions and a scripting language providing the ultimate in flexibility.

How clean is your data?

When integrating the new data as part of your migration, you may decide to impose restrictions on the format, or contents, of attribute values. If the data was manually input then the migration process offers you the opportunity to validate it as part of your integration. InterChange allows validation of the data as part of the synchronisation process, with bad values being flagged for you to decide whether to modify it or discard it altogether.

Configure and forget

Once you've configured InterChange it may be left to run regular scheduled synchronisations to ensure that further data from its sources is automatically integrated into your system. A comparison engine reduces the bandwidth used by the synchronisation by only passing through new, deleted or modified information.
